BETA TOOLS SPEED UP
TOUGH PTT THAILAND GRAND PRIX FOR JOREG NAVARRO AND FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO
A complicated weekend ended for Beta Tools Speed Up riders at the Chang International Circuit.
Jorge Navarro and Fabio Di Giannantonio leave Thailand with the seventeenth and eighteenth position aware of having given the maximum although the difficulties encountered during the weekend.
Today’s race start was very hard after yesterday’s difficult qualifying in which Fabio and Jorge got the eighteenth and twenty-first position. They made a good start but too many difficulties encountered on track, especially in the straights where Navarro and Di Giannantonio could not keep the pace.
Beta Tools Speed Up team ended the Thai Grand Prix a bit disappointed looking to the next Japanese Grand Prix wishing to redeem.
JORGE NAVARRO #9 – 17th
“I am very disappointed by this weekend, especially from the race. I got a good start recovering positions right from the start but then it was impossible to move forward and get the group ahead. Big difficulties at every straight, we lost a lot at the end of T1, T2 and T4 which are acceleration zones. We recovered in T3 and at the beginning of T4, but it was too risky driving in that way. This is our position this weekend, we need to be realistic and understand why we have suffered so much. We will continue to work hard to come back stronger than before already from Japan”.
FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21 – 18th
“Difficult weekend. Jorge and I gave our best on the track but with the bike we have right now we couldn’t do better on this circuit, it was complicated for the whole team. Talking about the development of the bike we are at the top, the bike allows us to do what we want when riding, a pity that we lose a lot on the straight, it is our only problem. When we find a solution for this then we will fight for the podium every Sunday, but so in some tracks we cannot do anything!”
SIXTH AND SEVENTH ROW FOR DI GIANNANTONIO AND NAVARRO IN THAI QUALIFYING
At the PTT Thailand Grand Prix were held the qualifying sessions which defined the starting grid for tomorrow’s race. A difficult qualifying for both Beta Tools Speed Up team riders who will start tomorrow from the eighteenth (Di Giannantonio) and twenty-first (Navarro) position, respectively in the sixth and seventh row.
Determined to improve Friday’s twenty-fifth position, Di Giannantonio managed the first part of the third free practice working on the setting of the Speed Up bike. The feeling improved and towards the end of the session Fabio found the fastest lap that took him directly to Q2 where he closed the qualifying with the eighteenth place.
Navarro finished the free practice sessions in fifteenth position, thus having to face the Q1. Unfortunately, the luck was not on his side when in Q1, after the tyres change, he crashed a few minutes before the end of the race ending his qualifying with the twenty-first position.
FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21 – 18th in 1’36.359
“Today was a good day at the end. I drove well and the bike is perfect too, but the problem we have since the beginning of the year is on the straights where we struggle a lot and the difference with the others is abysmal, I always try to push hard but sometimes it’s not enough, it depends on the track at the track. There are tracks where we can make a difference and others where we suffer and this is one of those. Tomorrow it will be tough, because I struggle to respond to attacks and to attack, but we will do our best as usual!”
JORGE NAVARRO #9 – 21st in 1’36.045
“Today was not really our best day, but we need to look ahead! In Fp3 we tried a change that did not give us the feedback we were hoping for and therefore we were not able to get direct access to Q2. In Q1 I made a mistake during our fastest lap, so I decided to change the tyres, but when I got back on track I crashed finishing the qualifying in twenty-first place. We just have to keep working to understand how to face tomorrow’s race”.
