NAVARRO CLIMBED UP TO THIRD STEP OF THE PODIUM OF THE GRAND PRIX OF THE AMERICAS

Beta Tools Speed Up team with Jorge Navarro took the first podium of the season and the first in Moto2 for the rider, who achieved with gritted teeth a fantastic third place at the Grand Prix of the Americas.

A very positive weekend since the first laps on track for Navarro who was very fast and competitive on his Speed Up SF19T. He took the second row on the grid in Saturday’s qualifying, then in the warm-up he and his staff made some changes to the braking gaining more confidence in driving. When the traffic lights went out, the Spaniard struggled in the early laps until he found stability to push more and start to climb up to the third step of the podium.

Unlucky race instead for Fabio Di Giannantonio that crashed out shortly after the start following the contact with another rider. Too bad for the result at the end of the race, but team and rider are coming back home aware of the progress achieved thanks to the hard work done this weekend and confident to do well already from the next appointment with Moto2 to be held at the warm Jerez circuit de la Frontera from 3 to 5 May.

JORGE NAVARRO#9 – 3rd
“On Friday we already did a great job continuing to make progress with the setting of the bike towards the race and this morning in the warm up we took another step forward which gave me a lot of confidence especially in the braking and in the race I immediately felt the difference. I did not start well but after a few laps I started recovering, I knew my strengths and I tried to exploit them to the maximum. I pushed as hard as I could and finally got to the podium. A great joy after a long period of continuous search for a result like this. We still have a lot of work to do ahead of us, we need to continue like this”.
FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO#21 – DNF
“I am very sorry because we could have had a good race, but it didn’t happen because of another rider we finished it after a few meters from the start. I am very disappointed but, in the end, we have made a lot of progress this weekend and so we take the positive and bring it to Europe. We are very excited for the next race in Spain!”

SECOND ROW FOR NAVARRO AND FIFTH FOR DI GIANNANTONIO AT THE CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS

The weather is the protagonist of this second day of the Grand Prix of the Americas and the direction is forced to cancel the third free practice session due to bad weather.

Jorge Navarro and Fabio Di Giannantonio got direct access to the Q2 thanks to their great free practice on Friday in which they got the seventh and ninth places in the combined classification. In the decisive session which determined the starting order in tomorrow’s race, the two Beta Tools Speed Up team riders reached second and fifth row of the grid. Navarro, although the strong wind on the track, took advantage of every second of the session by continuously improving his fast lap. And it is with the last lap of the qualifying that the Spaniard took the sixth place. Di Giannantonio managed to take the thirteenth time after a complicated qualifying because of the lack of feeling with the front of the bike. He will take advantage of tomorrow’s warm up to figure out with his staff what changes to make.

JORGE NAVARRO#9 – 6th in 2’11.333
“Today was a strange day because we only did 6/7 laps because of the weather. However, this morning we made some small changes based on the data collected yesterday and I immediately found myself well. I thought the conditions would have been worse especially for the lack of grip and the wind, but the track was a bit slower so I managed to do well with good sensations and a good pace so I am confident for tomorrow, we can have a good race“.
FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO#21 – 13th in 2’12.494
“I am not happy with today’s thirteenth place. This is the best qualifying of this year but I know we could have done a lot better. There was a lot of wind on the track and I had no feeling with the front and so I rode much more slowly than the others and also than yesterday. We are still positive, if our worst condition is to do 13th at the moment it is not bad, for me tomorrow we can manage the situation and recover
”.

SEVENTH AND NINTH PLACE FOR THE BETA TOOLS SPEED UP TEAM IN THE FIRST DAY OF THE GRAND PRIX OF THE AMERICAS

A good start of the Grand Prix of the Americas for the Beta Tools Speed Up team, once again demonstrating the great potential of the Speed Up SF19T bikes and their riders. There was no time to relax on this first day of free practice at COTA. The rain forecast for tomorrow morning forced the Moto2 riders to push immediately to guarantee access to the Q2.

Surprising Di Giannantonio who was able to immediately adapt his driving to one of the toughest circuit and at the end of the day he took seventh place in the combined rankings after a clear improvement from the morning session. Jorge Navarro also started the race weekend on the right foot. The Spaniard took third place in the first free practice in the morning also showing an excellent pace. In Fp2 he continued to improve the setting of the bike together with his staff improving the lap time by almost eight tenths, positioning himself in ninth place.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO#21 – 7th in 2’10.719
“Today well, very well! I like the track a lot here, as the place and the atmosphere, everything is beautiful here so I arrived full excited for this Gp. This morning was fine even though we could have done better, but obviously it took me a while to adapt to the track and to understand the setting of the bike, while this afternoon we took a big step forward. We still have a lot to improve in my opinion, especially in the braking, but we are on the right way. Let’s see tomorrow to take another step forward because we only have one session before QP”.
JORGE NAVARRO#9 – 9th in 2’10.763
“First positive day. This morning we rode with a good pace and in the afternoon we tried some solutions getting good conclusions, but we still have some work ahead to improve the feeling with the bike that is not so good due to the lack of grip. However, I am sure that tomorrow we will be able to find a solution to these problems and being ready for the qualifying”.
