COMPLICATED WEEKEND FOR COLLIN VEIJER AT AUTODROMO ENZO AND DINO FERRARI IN IMOLA
A complicated weekend ended for Collin Veijer and the Speed Up Junior team at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari racetrack in Imola.
The Dutch rider, among the youngest in the category, qualified ninth in the third round of the CIV Moto3 ready to face the two races of the weekend.
It could have been a great weekend for Collin and his team, but a contact with another rider during the last lap of Race 1 made it all the more difficult. Collin finished the race in first position but the race direction gave him 5 penalty seconds for that mistake in the last chicane finishing the race fifth. Unfortunately, the race direction gave Veijer a second penalty, forcing him in Race 2 starting from the last position on the grid. Once again the young Collin showed all his determination and his talent on the track recovering eighteen positions and so crossing the finish line seventh.
Collin Veijer#95: “What can I say, I’m really sorry for what happened this weekend, I didn’t deserve this punishment. Looking at the positive side, the penalty made me stronger, motivating me even more for the second race. It wasn’t easy to overtake all those riders, but I did it. I could have reached the fourth place on the last lap, but it would have been too risky and we didn’t deserve to finish with 0 points, especially after the team gave me a perfect bike. I want to thank everyone who makes this possible, we will return to Misano even stronger!”
