Moto2-SUNDAY AT GRAND PRIX OF MISANO CONDITIONED BY THE WEATHER. CORSI SAVED THE RACE ON LAST TURN, FERNANDEZ FORCED TO RETIRE DUE TO ELECTRONICS PROBLEMS.
The true main player of the Grand Prix of San Marino e Riviera di Rimini was the weather. After two days of dry sessions, the expected rain totally changed the track and race conditions by forcing teams and riders to change the bike setting already in the morning warm up. The race started in a mild rain that made the track slippery and riding conditions really difficult. The Speed Up rider Simone Corsi lost some starting position while Augusto Fernandez immediately recovered. Unfortunately, during lap nine, the young Spanish who had reached the tenth position was forced to retire due to an electronic problem to the bike. Only 16 riders finished Moto2 race at the Marco Simoncelli circuit in Misano and among them Simone Corsi. The Roman rider, after a crash in the last turn, managed to save the race by getting up and arriving eighth at the finish.
SIMONE CORSI#24 – 8th
“It was a really long and hard battle. There was very little grip and the rain seemed to be getting stronger, for this reason a lot of us crashed. I’m sorry becauseI missed the fifth place right at the last turn, but I’m happy I finished eighth and earned 8 points in the overall standings. “
AUGUSTO FERNANDEZ#37 – NOT CLASSIFIED
“I do not know what to say, I’m obviously very sorry for today. I had a good pace, I was riding well and fast recovering lap by lap. It was the first time I was in Top Ten in race, I felt I could do well today and finally achieve my first goal, the points. Now I only want to forget what happened and concentrate on the next Grand Prix of Aragón. “
Moto2- QUALIFYING OF THE GRAND PRIX OF SAN MARINO E RIVIERA DI RIMINI
EXCELLENT WORK BY THE SPEED UP RIDERS: THIRD ROW FOR CORSI AND NINTH FOR FERNANDEZ
The qualifying sessions came to an end today at Misano Adriatico, the thirteenth round in the 2017 Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing season. Speed Up Racing Team riders, Simone Corsi and Augusto Fernandez, will jump tomorrow respectively from the third and ninth row in the eighth and twenty-fifth position.
The Roman rider, after a good fourth time in 1’38.384 in the FP3 in the morning, is able to lower the fast lap again during the qualifying session and with 1’37.940 he will start from the eighth position of the starting grid of the race of tomorrow. The young Fernandez got a fabulous sixth place in the FP3, confirming his steady growth. Unfortunately, in the afternoon’s QP he did not get better because of the lack of grip in the back. Tomorrow’s warm up will be crucial to resuming this morning’s feeling.
SIMONE CORSI#24 – 8° in 1’37.940
“Good day! I’m sorry to have missed the second row a step back from the end of the QP as we had a good start in both sessions and we could stay in the top 5. If tomorrow’s race is dry we are sure we will be competitive. If it’s wet it will be different for all riders so it’s all to see. I feel ready in both conditions!”
AUGUSTO FERNANDEZ#37 – 25° in 1’38.739
“I’m so sorry to start from the ninth row, it is not for sure what we expected after the great FP3! We had a good time and a good lap time, then in the QP we wanted to make that extra step, but we did not get the result hoped for. The back was not good, we could not even repeat this morning’s time, no grip. We know we can do this race well, the points area remains our goal”.
MOTO2- FREE PRACTICE AT MISANO WORLD CIRCUIT MARCO SIMONCELLI
CORSI IS HARD AT WORK IN THE SPEED UP CAMP, MOSTLY ON PACE; FERNANDEZ HAS EVEN MORE ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
Simone Corsi finished eighth in the first day of the Tribul Mastercard GP San Marino e Riviera di Rimini. The Speed Up Team’s Roman rider, having scored the thirteenth time in the FP1 in the morning, then placed eighth in 1’38,464 in the afternoon session, improving his lap time by seven-tenths.
Even teammate Augusto Fernandez ended two valid free practice sessions, improving his lap time and testing a good race pace. In the morning session, the young Spaniard got an excellent fifteenth position in 1’39.370 while maintaining a steady pace throughout the session. In the FP2, however, he focused on the race pace while maintaining the tyres of the previous session.
SIMONE CORSI#24 – 8° in 1’38.464
“This afternoon we did a good job improving the morning time. The feeling is not bad, like the race pace. We must retrieve those 3-4 tenths from the first. Tomorrow, the lap time will surely come down to 1’37, but fortunately we have understood the changes to be made to the back for more grip. We’ll see tomorrow how it will go.”
AUGUSTO FERNANDEZ#37 – 26th in 1’39.283
“We started well this morning, we were pleased with the fifteenth time at a second from the first. I felt good with the bike, in fact in the afternoon we did not make great changes, but we simulated the race pace. We then scored twenty-sixth as we used the FP1 tyres. We missed the fast lap, but we know the reason why!”
