The HDR Heidrun Speed Up team finished an almost perfect weekend at the Catalunya-Barcelona circuit.

Fourth on the grid, Jorge lost three positions at the start and up to the fourth lap he was seventh. He did everything not to lose the leading group and with some overtaking after ten laps he was fifth behind Fernandez. His determination and a great pace in the final stages were key to him taking a welldeserved third place, which led him to take back the third position in the general classification.

The rookie of the team lost the possibility to step on the podium but once again he amazed everyone. Excellent start for Fabio Di Giannantonio who from fifth on the grid immediately gained a position and he was fourth behind Lowes at the end of the first lap. The Roman rider advanced one more position, the pace was good and on lap 10 he was third behind Marquez and Luthi. Unfortunately, in turn 10 of lap 11 Fabio crashed out and ended the fight for his first podium in Moto2 career.

“We had a really good weekend, I’m very happy. We had left the Mugello with problems of feeling but here I found what I was looking for from the first day. The race was defined by small details but now we know the things we need to improve, especially the start of the race when we have a full tank and when we are at maximum speed to be able to pass our rivals more easily because today we were a bit limited . I want to thank the team, my family and all the people who came in this incredible weekend. And now the Netherlands is waiting for us! “
“After the good start we did well on the first lap too, I got touched with Marquez and Bastianini at turn 1 but I had not lost positions. Then I started overtaking, first Lowes, then Fernandez and I found myself behind Luthi and Marquez and I felt good on the Speed Up bike, I felt I could finish the race well. Unfortunately, on lap 11, I made a slight mistake and I crashed. We leave this weeekend sorry for the crash but happy with the steps we are taking forward. We have shown that we can stay with the first. Many thanks to the team for the excellent work we are doing together! “

A red hot qualifying session at the Catalunya circuit led both HDR Heidrun Speed Up team riders to secure the second row of the Gran Premi de Catalunya’s starting grid. Jorge Navarro and Fabio Di Giannantonio demonstrated a great team work that allowed both of them to be really competitive and fast on the track.

Jorge closed the three free practice sessions at the top of the standings in 1’44.241, a time marked in the middle of the third session. Behind him Fabio has confirmed the progress achieved on the Speed Up with the second chrono.

After gaining direct access to Q2, Navarro and Di Giannantonio left together the pit-lane starting the 15 minutes available for the grid positions fight.

The two HDR Heidrun Speed Up riders, after eight exciting laps together, closed the Catalan Saturday in fourth and fifth position by winning the second row of the grid.

“We are having a good weekend. This morning we had a really good rhythm during the Fp3. After the practice session we made some small changes to the bike before the qualifying which gave us an extra boost. The session went very well, we did a good team work with my teammate and in the end it didn’t go wrong, although we expected something more. Anyway we are there, at +0.041 from pole, and it could be a great day if we continue to do our best as we are already doing!”

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO#21 – 5th in 1’44.259

“This morning went very well, we have taken a big step since yesterday. The small changes we have made to the bike so far have been essential, they have given us that little extra that we did not have yesterday. In Fp3 we went really fast, second behind Jorge who, like us, did a great job with his staff. It was a good session for the team. The afternoon qualifying was the best in my world championship, we are only at +0.089 from the first. Honestly I believed it, I made a mistake in my fastest lap that probably cost me some positions, but I’m really happy. Tomorrow we must start strong, give gas and stay with the first until the end”.

The Moto2 weekend on the Catalan circuit of Barcelona, the seventh round of the World Championship, opened with the two free practice sessions. At the end of the first day, Jorge Navarro and Fabio Di Giannantonio finished third and twelfth respectively.

The Spaniard proved that he can be competitive right from the first laps of Fp1. After a fast lap with which he placed third in the standings, Jorge and his staff decided to take advantage of the second session to try some changes to the bike setting besides the harder tyre. Unfortunately, a crash on the tenth lap closed Navarro’s Friday early, but his third position remains unchanged.

After the incredible comeback in the Italian Gp race, Fabio went back on track very determined. He ended the first session sixteenth with a gap of eight tenths and then he managed to decrease it with the eighth time of the Fp2 at +0.478 from the first although the traffic on track. The HDR Heidrun Speed Up rider finally closed the first Catalan day with the twelfth combined time.

“Positive this first day. This morning the track conditions were different from the last test done in this circuit and so we tried to understand how to face the sessions. We were able to make good laps at a fast rhythm finishing the first race in third place. In the afternoon the conditions changed due to the increase in temperature but the feeling with the bike did not change and the pace was good. We then decided to change the front tyre with a harder one to try more solutions for the race but upon entering the track I realized that the feeling was not the same. Tomorrow we will continue with the soft tyre which is the most suitable choice!”

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO#21 – 12th in 1’45.151
“Pretty good this morning, but I was expecting something more. The conditions were not the best, the track was quite slippery, but in the afternoon we were able to find the right pace and be fast. It’s a pity about the traffic on the track towards the end of the race, which didn’t allow more fast laps, but all in all I’m very happy. Now down to earth because we still have to improve and tomorrow it will be essential to be able to make a clean lap without traffic and try to give our best in qualifying”.
